👋Hello, Friends. It's been an exciting week around here! My latest podcast episode set new records for number of listens and went somewhat viral on Twitter... my head's been kind of spinning (no pun intended) with all of the messages I've been receiving as a result. But more on that below...
I've got 3 things to share with you today:
The inside scoop on my Denis Morton interview
A quick follow-up on Zone 2 training
Free stuff! A contest for my newsletter readers only to try LMNT's electrolyte supplements
Let's do it!
Ep.15 - Denis Morton - Peloton, Purpose & Persistence
As you probably already know from reading this newsletter, I'm a big Peloton guy. I've been on Peloton since 2016 and have logged over 1500 workouts in that time. So getting to interview Denis Morton, one of the most recognizable Peloton instructors, was a special one for me.
How did it happen? Pretty simple. I reached out and asked. Well, slightly more complicated than that... I reached out to Peloton's PR team and explained who I was, what the podcast is all about, why I think my listeners would really want to hear from Denis, and some very specific topics I wanted to ask him about. After a bit of back and forth, they (and Denis, of course) agreed to do it and we were off to the races.
Is Denis really as cool as he seems? Yep. Sure is. Even when the cameras weren't rolling, Denis was super humble and authentic. It was really fun talking to him about everything from Phish to heart rate zone training. He was even really cool when I told him a) I wasn't so sure about him at first (when he was rocking the long hair), and b) that sometimes I totally ignore the instructors and do my own thing on the bike. Turns out he (kind of) does that, too. Who knew?
Anyhow, I'm super-grateful to Denis and the Peloton team for making this happen. And really appreciative of everyone who has listened to the episode, shared it on social media, and sent me messages about it. What a fun experience. And what a great chance to learn directly from Denis on a variety of topics.
If you haven't listened yet, here's a preview of what we covered in the conversation.

(10:43) - Finding Yoga and a Career in Fitness
(19:26) - Getting the Call That Changed His Life

Finally, for the Cliff's Notes version of our conversation, this thread on Twitter has some of my favorite moments:
Zone 2 training follow-up
Speaking of things going viral, there's a good chance you're reading this newsletter right now because you subscribed after reading this article two weeks ago. If that's you, welcome! Psyched to have you.
Apparently, I'm not the only one interested in Zone 2. The article went quasi-viral on Twitter via this tweet and quickly became my second most-read article ever with over 5000 views.
But who cares about my stats? Here's something that might actually help you: I got a lot of questions on how to use the Apple Watch for Zone 2 training and specifically how to set up alerts so that your watch buzzes you when you go in and out of Zone 2.
It’s not complicated but it’s also not completely intuitive. So I laid it out in really simple steps with screenshots in the Twitter thread below. Check it out if you're interested and let me know how it goes for you.
Finally, I'm DYING to interview someone at Apple on this topic - basically how to best use the Apple Watch for Zone 2 training, so consider this me putting out the Bat Signal to find that person.
🚨Free Stuff Alert: LMNT Electrolytes
Finally, in a recent podcast conversation I had with Dickie Bush, we talked a little bit about using electrolytes as a supplement in training. I am not an expert on this topic but I have been experimenting a bit with LMNT's electrolytes and there does seem to be a benefit in terms of energy. I notice myself being a little bit less rundown after a hard workout.
Anyhow, the folks at LMNT were kind enough to hook me up with a free variety pack to try myself and another to give away.
So.... if you want a chance to win a sweet (actually salty) box of electrolyte supplements just like the one pictured below, reply to this newsletter with the word SALTY in the subject line and you'll automatically be entered. My unbiased, third-party auditor (aka my wife) will choose a winner at random next week. The winner will just need to provide their address and then they'll be enjoying some salty goodness in no time. And maybe we can even compare notes on what we liked and didn't like about it.
Oh, and here are the countries LMNT currently does NOT ship to.

That's it for this week, my friends. Hope this email provided just a little bit of value to your life today.
See you in two weeks.
