One thing though, what you said about tracking metrics in order to adapt to suit your reader. I kind of have a different mindset about that. I don't think everyone can be my reader, and that's okay. Doesn't minimise the work I'm doing, they just need a different messenger and I'll just keep preaching my message to the ones it resonates with.
Thanks for this thoughtful comment, Chioma. I think you’re right. Sometimes quantitative targets help me to focus but ultimately they are outcomes that I can’t control. What I can control is the process and focusing on doing great work. Hopefully it resonates with certain people and the quantitative metrics take care of themselves. Think I might write something this week on this topic as I just heard a good podcast with Jack Butcher and Jim O’Shaughnessy that covered a similar idea and got my wheels spinning.
